2013 Breeders' Cup Results
Santa Anita is set to host the 31st Breeders’ Cup the first weekend in November. Consisting of 14 races split over two days, the prestigious affair will showcase some of the most talented thoroughbreds in the industry and offer a total of $27,000,000 in purse money.
In 2013, five races were run on the first day. In the $500,000 Marathon, it was London Bridge who in mid-stretch gunned it from fifth to bank a first place victory. Goldencents was the one to dominate the $1,000,000 Dirt Mile, while the $1,000,000 Juvenile Turf saw Outstrip overtake Bobby’s Kitten to secure a half-length win. At 7-1 odds, Chriselliam galloped to a 2 1/2 length victory over Testa Rossi in the $1,000,000 Juvenile Fillies Turf. As for the $2,000,000 Distaff (formerly the Ladies’ Classic), it was Beholder who galloped to glory, beating out Authenticity by 4 1/4 lengths and shutting out two-time Distaff champion Royal Delta.
The remaining nine races were run on Saturday. Ria Antonia beat out She’s A Tiger by a nose in the $2,000,000 Juvenile Fillies and 3-2 favorite Dank charged down the stretch to win the $2,000,000 Filly and Mare Turf. Groupie Doll ended her career on a high note by winning the $1,000,000 Filly and Mare Sprint, while returning champ Mizdirection won the $1,000,000 Turf Sprint for a second year in a row. New Years Day stole the $2,000,000 Juvenile away from Havana, and to the surprise of many, Magician made his way up from 11th place to win the $3,000,000 Turf. Post-time favorite, Secret Circle, won the $1,500,000 Sprint while Wise Dan triumphed for a second year in a row in the $2,000,000 Mile. As for the esteemed $5,000,000 Classic, it was Mucho Macho Man who made it into the winner’s circle, beating out Will Take Charge by a nose.
